Vote for me?

Sep. 16th, 2009 | 01:23 pm

Hello! I'm sure you're all just thrilled that I'm posting with a plea for help...but would you consider voting for me? You don't have to have an account to vote (so it's fast, free, and easy) and you could win me a much-needed $1000 for college and make me very happy! :D You can vote multiple times; you just have to wait 8 hours between each vote.

Thank you!

Quick question!

Jul. 2nd, 2009 | 11:50 pm

Is The Story Girl (L.M. Montgomery) worth reading? Certain reviews have deemed the writing as "saccharine" and it almost sounds like a collection of short stories mixed with admiration for an excessively idealized main character. What do you think?

This font makes my eyes hurt. (Scroll down for a larger image of it.) In a cool sort of way.

Let's talk icons!

Apr. 13th, 2009 | 05:52 pm

A question: which icon table do you like better? This kind or this kind?

Also, if you have time:

Basically, you reply to an iconmaker's comment with 3-5 of your favorite icons of theirs, and 3-5 of your least favorite icons of theirs, with explanations why. Please don't worry about offending me by picking your least favorites, because constructive criticism is special and interesting! ;)

A petition asking President Obama to not rescind the Conscience Clause, a provision set by George W. Bush giving physicians and nurses the choice to not participate in abortion procedures if it conflicts with their convictions. It would be terrible if this clause were abolished--not only does it further abortion, but it violates the rights of American citizens by forcing them to engage in procedures that they consider abominable and morally wrong.

Love according to children.

Feb. 25th, 2009 | 12:33 pm

I'm not sure how accurate these are (did children really say these?), but if they are then they're sweet. =) Some of my favorites are in bold...

Actual children’s answers to the question “what is love?”

“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.” - Billy, age 4

“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.” - Karl, age 5

“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.” - Chrissy, age 6

“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.” - Terri, age 4

“Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.” - Danny, age 7

“Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss.” - Emily, age 8

“Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.” - Bobby, age 7

“If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,” - Nikka, age 6

“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.” - Noelle, age 7

“Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.” - Tommy, age 6

“During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.” - Cindy, age 8

“My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.” - Clare, age 6

“Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.” - Elaine, age 5

“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Brad Pitt.” - Chris, age 7

“Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.” - Mary Ann, age 4

“I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.” - Lauren, age 4

“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.” - Rebecca, age 8

“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.” - Karen, age 7

“You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.” - Jessica, age 8

Pretty new icon!

Has anyone ever ordered a calendar from Snapfish before? I started designing one today! I want to put something like a verse and a quote on each month page, so what are your favorite verses and quotes? Any theme will do; doesn't matter if it's encouraging or philosophical or important to remember or whatever, as long as it's true and good! ;P

Yesterday was a pretty good day.

Jan. 13th, 2009 | 12:26 pm

I felt happier and freer. How we view ourselves, how we relate to God, how we go about our day, hinges so much on emotions, whether we realize it or not. Feelings aren't necessarily bad, but they can't be really trusted. They're arbitrary and always changing, sometimes for reasons beyond our control. When out of control, your emotions can overwhelm your ability to think or act objectively. So something that would seem ridiculous and trivial to one person can seem overwhelming and terrible to another, mostly because of how differently their hearts and brains are wired, or even because of a hormonal or chemical imbalance.

Anyway. =P

This is pretty cute. If you don't have time to watch all of it, at least watch from 4:15 onward:

It's time to part ways

Jan. 22nd, 2008 | 10:21 am

I did a friends cut today. I don't like having to do it. Please don't take it hard and don't take it personally--this is LJ, after all. ;) Thanks for all the comfort, hugs, and encouragement in the past...blessings for your future.
